Objectives
PLANNING
Ensure that regular planning of the board and centre activities is carried out.
Management will
· Review purpose and philosophy.
· Establish goals that define areas of responsibility within the centre.
· Develop objectives for each area of responsibility.
· Establish a review framework to assess the performance of staff and the centre’s program based on identified goals and objectives.
· Review the centre’s activities by setting up an annual review process that assesses performance in achieving objectives.
LEGAL
Ensure that the centre meets all legal requirements.
Management will
· Assure compliance with municipal, provincial and federal legal requirements.
· Keep the incorporation documentation and by-laws up-to-date
· Review the provincial license renewal report and all other inspectors’ reports
· Review the purchase-of-service agreement with the municipality.
· Renew insurance annually after reviewing terms to ensure adequate coverage.
· Review the terms of the rental lease agreement.
· Install, implement, operate and review the record-keeping system.
HEALTH, SAFETY AND NUTRITION
Ensure health, safety and nutrition policies and practices protect children’s well being.
Management will:
· Establish health, safety and nutrition policies that are consistent with legal requirements.
· Ensure health, safety and nutrition policies are clearly explained to all parents guardians.
· Review all reports concerning health, safety and nutrition that are sent to regulatory authorities.
PROGRAM
Ensure that a high quality early childhood care and education program is in place that compliments parents/guardians’ childrearing responsibilities.
Management will
· Support curriculum policies that reflect the centre’s non-sexist, anti-racist values and strive to support children’s optimum development and learning.
· Establish admission and attendance policies that are equitable and consistently applied.
· Support parental/guardian involvement in the centre.
· Support parents/guardians’ ability to participate in their children’s early learning and development.
· Consider the annual program review report prepared by the supervisor and program staff.
· Solicit feedback by designing and administering parent/guardian and staff questionnaires.
STAFF
Ensure that fair personnel policies are established and maintained.
Management will
· Negotiate salaries each year that reflect job responsibilities and necessary skills as much as possible within the financial realities of the centre.
· Establish benefits that promote staff well being.
· Set out working conditions that establish hours of work and overtime.
· Establish employment procedures and monitor consistent implementation.
· Determine staff responsibilities in the job descriptions.
· Carry out a supervisor’s annual performance review.
· Encourage staff to participate in staff development opportunities.
· Establish a behaviour guidance policy that is reviewed upon hiring and at each annual performance review meeting.
· Enter into a contractual agreement with each staff member through a letter of employment
· Set out personnel policies and information about the centre’s history, organization and program in a personnel handbook.
FINANCES
Ensure the financial viability of the centre.
Management will
· Establish fee collection policies that are consistently implemented
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Ensure favourable external relations for the centre and contribute to community well being.
Management will
· Ensure that the centre co-ordinates program activities with schools, social services, and other community organizations.
· Carry out a public relations program in the community.
· Participate in community organizations.
· Monitor and respond to government initiatives.
